Welcome to Godspeed Church! We gather in order to worship God, to hear from the Bible, and to care for one another. We believe strongly that Jesus Christ is at the center of all of that. He is why we exist and why we meet on Sundays.
We'd love for you to join us. Here are some FAQs on what you can expect on a Sunday morning.
How do I enter the building?
As you approach the church at 200 Taunton Avenue in East Providence, look for signs to the parking area or use on-street parking. Enter at the far left door at the front of the building marked by Godspeed signs and attended by a friendly greeter.
What goes on on Sunday mornings?
SUNDAY SCHOOL classes take place from 10:30 to 11:20 (10:40 to 11:15 for the adults, so that you can take your kids to their classes and then go to your own). The classes for Children's Sunday School, for children from nursery through 5th grade, take place on the floor above the Café from 10:30 to 11:20. Youth Sunday School for 6th to 12th graders, also happens on the third floor from 10:30 to 11:20. Adult Sunday School meets from 10:40 to 11:15 in the large room next to the Café.
The CAFÉ is open 10:20 to 11:30. You can't miss it—it is right when you walk in, at the top of the stairs. You will find a warm welcome, coffee, tea, donuts, and comfortable space to talk. If you prefer to stay there and chat with someone rather than going to one of the Sunday school classes, you are welcome to do so.
The WORSHIP SERVICE begins at 11:30 am. Our service is made up of three parts: worship through singing, a sermon, and prayer time. If you have children, they are invited to Kidspace on the third floor during the sermon and prayer time. Kidspace is a supplement to Children's Sunday School, with crafts and games centered around Jesus and the gospel.
What is the setting like? What should I wear?
The setting is informal and friendly, and the dress is casual. No need to dress up. Church as we see it is not a place where you have to look perfect and put your best foot forward. We are a family of real people doing real life.
Will I be put on the spot?
No, no need to worry. You will never be asked to "do" anything like introduce yourself or pray in public.
How is communion celebrated at Godspeed?
We celebrate communion once a month, and anyone who has put their trust in Jesus Christ for salvation is welcome to participate. You do not have to be a member of Godspeed to participate in communion.
What about giving?
You will notice that we do not pass an offering plate during the service. This is because we do not want anyone to feel put on the spot or pressured to give financially. We do encourage generous giving, and we have one offering box between the sanctuary and the small chapel and one in the Café. As a visitor, though, there is no expectation for you to give to the church.
